"¡Salud!" is a Cuban propaganda film that is full of lies from beginning to end. It tries to portray Cuba's health system as one of the best in the world, when we know that not even animals are treated the way that Cubans are treated at Castro's hospitals. And it refers to the Cuban doctors that Castro sends to other countries, without saying a word about the fact that they are forced to leave their families behind; that they cannot refuse to go; that the Castro regime is paid for their services in hard currency, but pays the Cuban doctors in pesos and steals the difference.
The most insulting part is to hear what the useful idiots, beginning with Jimmy Carter and ending with Medea Benjamin, one of the women who was recently in Cuba with Cindy Sheehan to protest the treatment of the terrorist suspects being held at Guantanamo, but who refused to meet with the Ladies in White or to say one single word about the prisoners of conscience that are languishing in Castro's jails, have to say about this piece of crap masquerading as a documentary.
Here is what some of the useful idiots had to say about this film and Castro's health system:
“Of all the so-called developing nations, Cuba has by far the best health system. And their outreach program to other countries is unequaled anywhere,” Jimmy Carter (Jimmy, ignores the fact that the Cuban doctors who are sent to other countries are slaves, that Castro gets paid for their services in hard currency, oil, or other commodities, that he pays his slaves in pesos and pockets the difference).
“¡Salud! Is at once an emotionally powerful, informative and entertaining film that shows how seriously Cuba puts into practice the moral value of healthcare as a human right. The film will provide important food for thought among audiences interested in religion, ethics and building a more humane world." Rev. Dr. Joan Brown Campbell, Director of Religion, Chautauqua Institution (Remember her? This woman was one of those who conspired to send Elian Gonzalez back to Cuba to become another slave).
"I salute ¡Salud! for teaching us how much we can learn not just about - but from - Cuba." Julian Bond, Chairman of the Board National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
“¡Salud! shows us that, regardless of economic constraints, health for all is possible when government intelligently applies basic principles and makes a healthy citizenry a top priority." Georges Benjamin, MD, FACP Executive Director, American Public Health Association (APHA).
“¡Salud! is an excellent, accurate and deeply moving portrayal of a healthcare system designed to keep people healthy rather than the ‘sickcare’ system that currently exists in the United States.” Jocelyn Elders, MD, former U.S. Surgeon General.
“¡Salud! is compelling, upbeat and moving -- a great tool for learning much there is to learn from Cuba." Paul Farmer, MD Partners in Health and Harvard Medical School
“Watch ¡Salud! and you'll be in awe of what a small, poor country can do to alleviate suffering all over the world. The love and care that Cuban-trained doctors are giving to poor patients from South Africa to Venezuela and The Gambia is a lasting legacy to the life-affirming values of the Cuban government and its people.” Medea Benjamin, Global Exchange.

PLEASE!! Send e-mails to as many of these people as you can, including Carter. Ask them why they are lending their names to promote a film which is based on lies and that it only serves as a propaganda tool for a tyranny that has been enslaving the Cuban people for 48 years.

You have indeed a strong opinion about Cuba's health care system. However, to find fault one has not to go across the water: In the US alone, there are more than 40 million people that could benefit from a universal health care system, it does not have to be high tech or fancy.
ResponderEliminarI like to look at things from a positive side: Without having to endorse a particular regime or leader personality, the Cuban health care system is built on the principles of the 1978 Declaration of Alma Ata, a major policy document from the World Health Organization, which is endorsed by most member states. However, only a few countries have actually implemented a consequent Primary Health Care approach with the vision to provide "Health for ALL"!
Whether the movie 'Salud' is communist propaganda or not, some of the messages and content are worthwile reflecting upon.
Senor Gonzales,
ResponderEliminarif you would live in a society that respects the freedom of their citizens, then you would have the opportunity to travel to Cuba and see for yourself how good or bad the situation and their system is!
Just a thought to ponder.
